Pastor Rev. Joseph T. Sum
Reverend Sum comes to us from Exton, Pennsylvania. He began his Christian service as a “Missionary- In-Residence” proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ in Christian summer camps throughout New England. During his summer camp ministry, Joseph developed a passion for preaching and teaching the Word of God to people of all ages.
During his time at seminary, Joseph served as a pastoral intern and subsequently as a director of Children and Youth Ministry at St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Devon, PA. His desire for serving God and His people was ignited during his years at St. John’s. He has also previously served in other church leadership positions such as: 1) Director of Christian education; 2) Director of Youth and Family ministries; and 3) Pastor of a small Baptist church in Pennsylvania.
Additionally, Joseph started a Christ-centered preschool named “Precious Ones Preschool (POP),” which now enters its 14th year of faithful ministry to young children and their families.
Joseph is a third generation Christian from Myanmar (previously known as Burma). The gospel of Jesus Christ came to Joseph’s native land through the service and sacrifice of American missionaries. Joseph learned to love God through hearing Bible stories, singing traditional hymns and contemporary praise songs, and helping others in Jesus’ name from childhood. At the age of fifteen, Joseph made a personal commitment to follow Jesus Christ.
Joseph holds the following degrees from Eastern University: B.A. in Cross-Cultural Communications, Master of Education, and Master of Divinity. He was ordained in 2011. Joseph met his wife Anna during his junior year in Seminary. Anna is a registered nurse and is originally from South Korea. They have a daughter named Emilie. Joseph enjoys spending time with family and friends, listening to music, playing tennis, watching American and European “football”, and meeting new people at local coffee shops and bookstores.

He is also a licensed electrician and worked for a contractor in Massachusetts for six years before coming to WPC.
